Our CultureThis message is intended to help prospective team members understand a little more about Lifefitter and our culture. First, our office is a dungeon, the coffee is horrible, and management is a parade of idiots. Obviously, we’re joking…now that we are out of that (very real) dungeon things are looking up. We have a nice office with a great view and a pool table for when you need a break. We are located in one of the hippest, funkiest areas of town, surrounded by great restaurants and businesses. But enough about our awesome office. What about us? As you may already know, we are building niche websites to bring people together around common interests. For example, our site ReefDrift is for SCUBA divers and TrailGrind is for mountain bikers. Helping to create and shape our brands is fun and rewarding. We are starting with projects where there is significant interest from our team. Sure, other channels may scale a little faster, but we want to do great things and “eating the meals we cook” is an important part of our development strategy to ensure great products. Despite the jokes, most people would not classify our management team as a “parade of idiots” (although they do have their moments). Two friends founded the company, and they have over 10 years experience working together with a solid entrepreneurial track record. Their last venture scaled from “apartment start-up” with nothing more than an idea on paper to over a $100 million in revenue and significant profitability on less than $1 million in funding. That’s all great to point out, but it’s also important to understand that Lifefitter is more than just the founders. Every team member is eligible for the employee participation plan, and we hope to mint more new millionaires than Google. Ok, that’s a once in a lifetime deal but the feeling of imminent success could not have been any stronger at early stage Google than it is here. We are going to win as a team, and the taste of victory will be sweet for everyone involved. A question on many people’s mind when considering a start-up is “How’s funding currently, and how long can you last before you have to raise more money?” Well, the company is funded by the two founders and they sit in the room with the rest of our team every day. We would never knock the passion of a young entrepreneur and the value of his sweat equity, but when you see someone combine that same hard work with a significant cash investment, it takes passion to another level. This also means we don’t answer to faceless investors in a far away boardroom. We are currently a small team of 7 with growth to 10 planned by the end of the year. For what it’s worth, we are tracking for profitability before the end of the fourth quarter. We are all very passionate about what we’re doing. Lifefitter is OUR company and everyone takes their role seriously. We are a typical start-up in that we don’t watch the clock and we leave when a) the work is done or b) we’re fried. Admittedly there’s much work to be done, so usually being fried rings the closing bell. If you are looking for a 9-5 paycheck, this isn’t the place for you. Our culture is relaxed. Shorts and t-shirts are fine but, we have a strict “no open wounds policy.” So if you endo your mountain bike on the weekend, please use bandages and, if necessary, wear some jeans to cover up the mess. We don’t look over each other’s shoulder or hold hands. We all have our tasks to complete for every project, and we just get it done. If someone finishes early, they look for other ways to chip in and make everything we do better. We hang out together at football games and barbeques, and we don’t tolerate office politics. We have a great thing going and frankly, we don’t want to screw it up. Bringing someone new into the fold is an important decision, and if you interview with us, you will interview with ALL of us. Skills and resume points are great, but we are looking for the right pieces to finish our puzzle. If you want to find your own perfect fit, we hope you will welcome this approach as a Lifefitter candidate. If you have read this far without being scared away, you could be the next person we are looking for. If so, check here for current opportunities and contact us to get the ball rolling. Good luck wherever your career path takes you. -The Lifefitter Team ![]() |
